Scott you took the words right outta my mouth. John this is a great read and I enjoy interesting (and fresh) takes on famous (not new) literature, however I’m noticing a trend (maybe it’s just what Medium is feeding me), of authors expressing disdain or maybe just lite disapproval, with things they admit (often towards the end or in the comments), they’ve never done. I find this interesting and maybe it’s just a blip but yes, take a road trip for gawd sakes!

The danger is in thinking that it’s all been seen, there’s nothing new, but there are — there are new people, different backroads, different sunlight, new and old companion soundtracks, and of course the risk of the road.

That you don’t know exactly what you’ll find is a risk, and that risk IS the reward. Your soul needs it.

Every trip is different, but after 22 years with this land yacht traversing 36+ states, I haven’t regretted one trip.

Even last summer when I smacked this slow moving antelope in west Texas, skidding off the road and almost flipping over.

Beautiful creature.
